Red Alert Series Reboot
Good day all.

I've always been a fan of 20th Century alternate history (books like the Axis of Time & Empires Lost series), military techno-thrillers (such as Tom Clancy's Red Storm Rising) & the Red Alert series. I'd say it's my favourite in the C&C universe in terms of concept, if not perhaps in terms of execution (I'm looking at you RA3). I've got very fond memories of the original Red Alert & I still play RA2/YR to this day.

I understand that the chances of anyone at EA reading this is about zero & the chances of them reading this & taking any ideas into account is even lower than that; that said, I'll outline a few ideas which I think would make an interesting total reboot of the Red Alert universe/

Fundamental Ideas:
1) The RA, Tib & Gens series all remain separate rather than trying to link them together (I always wondered where tech like the Chronosphere & Iron Curtain went to if the RA1-TD link was cannon).

2) The universe will be 80-90% serious & grounded with units/buildings being influenced mostly by real life weapon systems. Some units/tech, mostly top tier stuff, may be somewhat more whacky & wonderful but with real historical influences where possible (IE - things like the Chronosphere which links in with the Philadelphia Experiment in WW2).

3) The reboot will be set around the time of the Korean War was in real time (early 1950s) so units/buildings will be somewhat influenced by tech available at that time with some coming from further ahead like the original RA.

4) They'll only be two sides - Allies & Soviets, but will be broken down into sub-faction countries as in previous Red Alert games.

Background -
As with RA, Albert Einstein builds a time machine & uses it to go back to the 1920s to eliminate Adolf Hitler. This ensures the Nazis do not rise to power during the 1930s & there is no Second World War 1939-45. Instead, the USSR under Josef Stalin becomes Western Europe's main antagonist during in the late 30s & throughout the 40s until the war begins in 1950.

I imagine the Alternate Timeline that builds up to the war to look like this:

Upon his release from Landsberg prison, Albert Einstein kills Hitler. Hitler's book, Mein Kampf, is forgotten about & never published.

The Great Depression strikes - Communist sympathisers/supporters become more common throughout both Eastern & Western Europe due to economic hardship.

Franklin D Roosevelt wins the US Presidential Election & starts the New Deal program.

German federal election - As there is no popular Nazi/NSDAP movement, the KDP (Communist Party of Germany supported covertly by the USSR) is seen by many working class & some middle class people as the party to vote for. They get the biggest share of the vote but fail to gain a majority. A coalition government of Social Democratic Party of Germany, German Centre Party & some less extreme members of the German National People's Party is formed to prevent the Communists from obtaining power.
The right-wing, pro-military Kurt von Schleicher becomes the Chancellor of Germany & staunchly anti-communist. With the support of the Coalition Govt, he enacts a plan to get Germany of of the Great Depression using large infrastructure projects to 2 million jobs & boost the economy.

FDR wins a second term as US President.

Early 1936 - Italy attempts to annex Ethiopia but is promptly disowned by all European nations, including Germany. Economic problems are exacerbated by the loss of trade with it's neighbors & anti-fascist unrest & support for communism grows.

Late 1936 - Civil Wars erupt in both Spain & Italy - In Spain, a three way battle breaks out between Republicans, Nationalists & Communists. In Italy, dictator Mussolini is overthrown. Communist groups, backed by the USSR, attempt to seize power but are thwarted.

The UK, France & Germany sign the Alliance of Allied Nations. This alliance is created to check the spread of Communism & ensure greater military co-operation between them. The first act of the Allies is send aid to Republican forces in Spain & anti-communist groups in Italy. At first only supplies, weapons & a handful of volunteer soldiers are sent. However, this alone does not halt the tide due to the USSR supplying communist groups with similar aid. The decision is taken to send full combat units from the British, French & Germany armies by the end of 1937.
Although President Roosevelt is sympathetic towards the Allies, US Congress is very much in favour of isolationism & therefore no overt move is made by America to join the Allied Nations.

Imperial Japan invades China which is in the midst of a Communist Vs Nationalist civil war

Relations between the Allies & the USSR over the civil wars in Spain & Italy, as well as pro-communist propaganda being spread into Western Europe, are at breaking point. Stalin, realising that anti-communist forces are turning the tide in the civil wars, fears that a Europe united under democratic capitalism will attack the Soviet Union. He purges the Red Army & orders a modernisation program in order to keep pace with the Allies.
The USSR now increases the amount of aid to Chinese Communists.

Stalin, under the pre-text of stopping Japanese aggression in China, commits the Soviet Union into the battle. Soviet forces initially attack the Nationalist Chinese rather than Japan however.
The civil war in Spain is won by a mix of Nationalist/Republican forces backed by the Allies. The Allied Nations Alliance expands to incorporate Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium & Denmark. All attention is now shifted to ending the conflict in Italy.

Much of Eastern Europe has been flooded with Soviet propaganda throughout the 1930s; due to support from the local populations for communism, the USSR annexes Estonia, Latvia & Lithuania. Finland soon loses half its territory due to Soviet expansion.
These moves concern Poland & it makes covert pleas to the Allied Nations guarantee its security in the face of Soviet aggression. Although there is some support among the Allies for supporting Poland, appeasers like British Prime Minister Chamberlain fear the move would encourage Stalin to attack. No guarantees are therefore given.

FDR wins a third term as US President albeit narrowly. In order to prevent support for his rival, Wendell Willkie, Roosevelt is forced to promise a policy of isolationism despite private concerns about Soviet moves in Europe & the conflict in Asia.

Nationalist forces in China surrender to the combined might of the Soviets & Chinese Communists. The Red Army & People's Liberation Army now focus their full attention on the Japanese.
The civil war in Italy finally comes to an end with a democratic-nationalist victory. Italy joins the Allies.

Due to Soviet propaganda, support for communism in Poland continues to rise. Stalin plans to use Poland as a buffer state against the Allies. The USSR's scientists create Sarin Nerve Gas which Stalin demands tested as soon as possible.

The alliance between the USSR & Chinese Communists breaks down after the Soviets test Sarin Nerve Agent against Japanese forces in China. Although many Japanese are killed, a large number of Chinese civilians also perish. Stalin opts to occupy large parts of China and annexes Mongolia while Japan is forced to withdrawn in defeat from the mainland.

The USA, with some assistance from the Allies, successfully use embargo & trade relations to force the collapse of the Imperial Japanese government which was already on the ropes after defeat in China. The new government of Japan remains anti-communist but is more democratic & open to Western trade.
President Roosevelt doesn't stand for a fourth term. The Republican pro-isolationist candidate Robert A Taft is elected President. Although staunchly against foreign intervention, President Taft massively increases American Defence spending towards the US Navy & the newly created US Air Force. He also starts the US Atomic Bomb Program covertly.

Soviet NKVD agents successfully assassinate several leading pro-Allied Nations individuals in Poland driving it further into the USSR's sphere of influence.
The Americans, Allies and Soviets all test their first operational jet aircraft during this year.

Fighting breaks out in Poland between pro and anti-communist groups. Stalin successfully uses NKVD agents to influence the conflict. He later sends in Soviet troops in to occupy the nation. New Soviet weapons are observed in operation for the first time such a Tesla systems, flame based weapons, missile artillery & jet aircraft.
The Allies react with disbelief; several governments in Western Europe fall & elections are held in Allied countries like the UK, France & Germany. The new leaders, such as British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, are strongly opposed to communist appeasement & encourage the re-armament of their nations. Germany, still in some ways held back by the Treaty of Versailles, has all restrictions lifted.

Stalin, using gunboat diplomacy, signs treaties with several countries such as Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary & Yugoslavia which eventually sees them become incorporated into the USSR over the next few years.
Due to this, the Allies also expand: Greece, Portugal, Austria, Canada, Australia & New Zealand all join.
The Soviet military planners realise that the Allies have superior naval forces to them & encourage the construction on more submarines to counter this. These vessels can also be used to interdict Allied resupply efforts across the Atlantic from Canada & from the USA should the latter enter the war.

The USSR successfully tests the world's first atomic bomb.
The Allies rapidly pour money & resources into Research & Development for new weapon systems in order to catch up with and then overtake the Soviets. Albert Einstein becomes the head of the R&D program
The American nuclear program also receives a massive boost due to the Soviet test.

Allied intelligence provided by spies working in the USSR suggests that the Soviets are amassing large amounts of troops, tanks & supplies in Eastern Europe.
The Soviets also deliberately encourage unrest in nations like Czechoslovakia & Albania which have both expressed interest in joining the Allies.
In order to counter Soviet aggression into Western Europe, which is now seen by Allied leaders as a matter of when rather than if, the Alliance of Allied Nations votes to harmonise it's military command structure. The European HQ is created in Brussels, Belgium. Although some nations such as the UK & France resist this, skirmishes between Soviet & Greek forces along the Bulgarian border quickly settle the matter.
While Albert Einstein works tirelessly on the Allied Chronosphere & nuclear weapons program, Soviet scientists experiment with their latest device that can temporarily render a vehicle or structure vulnerable to all known hostile weaponry...

I'll add my ideas for units & structures for the Allies & Soviets in further posts.
